Our Restaurant, Bar & Lounge
Pemba Lodge came into existence in 2004 when its owner, Nassor El Mahruki, discovered the untapped potential of Shamiani Island for low-impact tourism and how it could benefit the 600 resident families. The lodge is not only developed but also staffed and maintained by local islanders. They take pride in cultivating much of the lodge’s fresh produce and providing the delectable seafood featured on our menu.
At the heart of our lodge lies the combined restaurant, bar, and lounge area, which offers breathtaking views of the serene bay upon which the lodge is nestled. You can spend leisurely hours on our comfortable sofas or in a hammock, immersing yourself in a good book or simply savoring the ever-changing panorama of turquoise, blue, and green hues against the glistening silver sands.
Our restaurant serves Swahili-inspired dishes, including vegetarian options, prepared with organic fruits and vegetables, freshly caught fish, and seafood—all sourced from local farmers and fishermen. We gather fresh herbs and salad greens from nearby gardens and incorporate locally sourced Pemba Island spices to infuse our meals with delightful flavors.
